Cervical Cancer Prevention Week
Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust is the only UK charity dedicated to women affected by cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities.
From 27th – 28th January the charity held an awareness week to raise the profile of cervical cancer and cervical abnormalities.
Nurses from Cervical Screening Training and the Colposcopy department at the Royal Victoria Hospital (RVI) had a stall at the RVI which had, as its focal point, a fun quiz called ‘Guess the Cervix’ , in which members of the public, visitors and staff could test their knowledge about what an abnormal/ normal cervix looks like. Handmade and hand decorated cervix shaped shortbread biscuits represented normal/ abnormal cervices. This enabled them to engage with women to enquire about their knowledge of screening and create more awareness of it and cervical cancer.
‘Normal’ cervix shaped biscuits could be purchased for a small donation which went to Jo’s Trust; they raised £241.
